Analysis
In this quotation you can see that their lives can’t be more different. Shmuel is a Jew and Bruno the commandants son.
They are talking about the different armbands and compare it.
They are treated differently because of the different armbands.
Shmuel has to wear an armband and Bruno says that it is nice.
He doesn’t understand its meaning and that the armband means that he is treated as if he weren’t a human . Shmuel is more mature than Bruno and understands the situation differently. On the one hand they are similar to each other but on the other hand they are different. One reason is that Shmuel’s side of the fence looks like a good place for Bruno but it isn’t .

Analysis :
This quotation is about the friendship between Shmuel and Bruno because both have a lot in common such as they were born on the same date and they died on the same day.
When Bruno had a new haircut he looked like Shmuel, just a little bit fatter.
Although they have a different origin, religion and family background they are so similar.
In the book Bruno always mentions that Karl, Daniel and Martin are his best friends for life. But in the end Bruno forgets their names so they aren’t his friends anymore. He dies with his best friend, hand in hand. And this shows that Bruno and Shmuel are friends. You can see how strong their friendship is because Shmuel forgives Bruno although he lied.
